Basic Beef Chili Recipe
Description
This is a simple basic chili recipe using ground beef.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups chopped onion
- 2 pounds ground beef, lean
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 cup diced red and green bell pepper
- 4 cloves garlic, finely minced
- 1 can (4 ounces) chopped mild green chile peppers, drained
- 1 to 2 tablespoons finely chopped jalapeno chile peppers
- 2 cans (14.5 ounces each) diced tomatoes, undrained (chili style, fire-roasted, or plain)
- 1 can (15 ounces) pinto beans or kidney beans, drained and rinsed, optional
- 1 1/2 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon ancho chile powder
- 1/2 teaspoon chipotle chile powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon dried leaf oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Preparation
- Brown the ground beef and onions in a large skillet.
- Add garlic and bell pepper. Cook for two more minutes while stiring.
- Add chili peppers, tomatoes, beans and seasonings. Simmer for 15 minutes.
- Cover and cook for another 15 minutes.
